LibreOffice project and community recap: November 2021
Here’s our summary of updates, events and activities in the LibreOffice project last month – click the links to learn more!
- Throughout November, we had a Month of LibreOffice, celebrating contributions all across the projects. Everyone who took part can claim a sticker pack, and we have extra merch to give away too! Check out the winners here.
- Meanwhile, in foundation news, TDF’s members are electing a new Board of Directors. We had live sessions with the candidates – and here are recordings for the second and third sessions.
- On November 4, we announced LibreOffice 7.1.7 with 27 bugfixes and compatibility improvements.
- Then we chatted with Nige Verity who’s helping out in the LibreOffice marketing community…
- Although the pandemic is still limiting in-person events, members of the French-speaking community met at the Open Source Experience 2021 in Paris. They had a booth with materials and information about LibreOffice.
- The north-German state of Schleswig-Holstein announced plans to switch to open source software, including LibreOffice, in its administration and schools.
- Our documentation and translation communities worked super hard in November, releasing the Impress Guide 7.2, Calc Guide 7.2 and a Czech translation of the Draw Guide 7.1. Well done, everyone!
- Meanwhile, Bayram Çiçek, who’s helping to implement new features in LibreOffice as part of the Google Summer of Code, told us about his work and why he recently became a Member of The Document Foundation.
- More updates from Germany: the new coalition government endorses free and open source software. In the coalition agreement (German), there are some key sentences on this topic.
- Lastly, we released LibreOffice 7.2.3, with 112 bug fixes and compatibility improvements.

I see that Trace Precedent works to find a precedent cell on the same tab (ie, “Once you have defined a trace, you can point with the mouse cursor to the trace. The mouse cursor will change its shape. Double-click the trace with this cursor to select the referenced cell at the end of the trace.”).
But it does not work to trace a precedent cell that is on a different tab. I used to use this function in Excel all the time. Hope a fix can be developed.
