Coming up on November 19: Bug Hunting Session for LibreOffice 6.2 Beta 1

LibreOffice 6.2 is being developed by our worldwide community, and is due to be released in early February, 2019 – see the release notes describing the new features here. LibreOffice 6.2 will include a new (optional!) user interface design called the Notebookbar – see here for some screenshots. You can help us to test it, and make it super reliable!

After the first Bug Hunting Session for LibreOffice 6.2, which was held on October 22nd, we’re glad to announce the Second Bug Hunting Session on November 19th.

In order to find, report and triage bugs, the tests during the Second Bug Hunting Session will be performed on the first Beta version of LibreOffice 6.2, which will be available on the pre-releases server on the day of the event. Builds will be available for Linux (DEB and RPM), macOS and Windows, and can be run in parallel with the production version – so you can test without affecting your existing stable installation.

Mentors will be available on November 19th 2018, from 7 AM UTC to 9PM UTC for questions or help in the IRC channel: #libreoffice-qa and its Telegram bridge. Of course, hunting bugs will be possible also on other days, as the builds of this particular Beta release (LibreOffice 6.2.0 Beta1) will be available until mid December.

During the day there will be two dedicated sessions, one about the new KDE5 Integration between 11AM UTC and 13PM UTC and the other about the tabbed notebookbar from 15PM UTC to 17PM UTC, it is not experimental any more.

What has happened since the first Bug Hunting Session?

Since LibreOffice 6.2 Alpha 1 was released, 169 bugs have been reported against Alpha 1 by more than 40 people, of which 70 have been already closed, either by fixing them (30), as duplicates (27) or as invalid/notabug (13).

35 bugs have been reported for the ongoing KDE5 integration as a consequence of the dedicated session conducted during the first Bug Hunting Session.

Quick report: LibreOffice 6.2 Bug Hunting Session in Ankara, Turkey

Our community is working on LibreOffice 6.2, which is due to be released in early February 2019! While developers are adding new features, other community members are helping to test them, in the form of Bug Hunting Sessions. You can learn more about these on our Quality Assurance blog, and in the meantime, here’s a quick report from an in-person session in Ankara, Turkey…

Here’s what Muhammet Kara, who helped to organise the event, had to say:

Eight people (including one remotely from Istanbul) participated in our live session in Ankara, and we tested LibreOffice 6.2 Alpha on Linux, Windows and macOS.

We always held our past live sessions in Pardus’ venue. This time we decided to make a change, and I think it brought good results. All people in the session, except me, were new faces, from different schools and workplaces.

We started with self-introductions, and chatted for a short while, to get to know each other. Then I went through our bug reporting and QA process briefly, and introduced the participants to our Bugzilla installation.

We identified several bugs, and created bug reports for them. Some of our new community members are following up the bug reports, and some have even started contributing to localization).

We also created a Telegram channel to communicate during the event, and later on as well. Overall, I think it was a productive, and fun event.

So thanks to Muhammet and the awesome Turkish LibreOffice community for their help! LibreOffice 6.2 is shaping up to be an excellent release…

Coming up on 22 October: First Bug Hunting Session for LibreOffice 6.2

LibreOffice 6.2 is currently being developed by our worldwide community, and is due to be released in early February 2019 – see the release notes describing the new features here. We’re still early in the development cycle, so more features are still to come!

In order to find, report and triage bugs, the LibreOffice QA team is organizing the first Bug Hunting Session for LibreOffice 6.2 on Monday October 22, 2018. Tests will be performed on the first Alpha version, which will be available on the pre-releases server a few days before the event. Builds will be available for Linux (DEB and RPM), macOS and Windows, and can be installed and run in parallel along with the production version.

Mentors will be available from 07:00 UTC to 19:00 UTC for questions or help in the IRC channel #libreoffice-qa and the Telegram QA Channel. Of course, hunting bugs will be possible also on other days, as the builds of this particular Alpha release (LibreOffice 6.2.0 Alpha 1) will be available until mid-November.

During the day there will be a dedicated session to test the new KDE 5 integration available in LibreOffice 6.2 from 14:00 to 16:00 UTC.

Results from the LibreOffice 6.1 RC1 Bug Hunting Session in Ankara

Question: Who can help to improve LibreOffice for millions of users around the world?
Answer: Anyone!

For instance, the Turkish LibreOffice community recently organised a Bug Hunting Session for LibreOffice 6.1 Release Candidate 1, to find and fix issues before the final release in early August.

Muhammet Kara helped to organise the event, and here’s his summary:

  • Around 15 people were present, and they tested LibreOffice for three hours. Multiple bugs were discovered. Some were reported, some were discussed, others were prepared for reports later.
  • Muhammet talked about “how to report bugs” for about 15 minutes, showing the LibreOffice Bugzilla installation.
  • There were Pardus, Debian, Windows and macOS machines (and possibly Fedora). Participants cross-checked issues on multiple platforms simultaneously.
  • After the session, there was a long discussion on community and ecosystem building for LibreOffice in Turkey.

Live LibreOffice 6.1 RC1 Bug Hunting Session in Ankara on July 13

LibreOffice 6.1 is approaching, and the Turkish community is organising an RC1 Bug Hunting Session in Ankara on July 13. Here are the details:

  • Time: 14:00-17:00 (UTC+3)
  • Location: TUBITAK ULAKBIM, 7th Floor, Meeting Room 2
  • Registration form

Attendees will bring their own laptops. Registration until Thursday 17:00 (UTC+3) is required. There will be snacks, tea, and some swag! So if you’re in (or around) Ankara, join our friendly community, and let’s make LibreOffice 6.1 the best release ever!

Join the final Bug Hunting Session for LibreOffice 6.1!

LibreOffice users around the world help developers to test new features and fix bugs before a new version is released. After the first and second Bug Hunting Sessions of LibreOffice 6.1, which were held on April 27th 2018 and May 28th 2018 respectively, we’re glad to announce the third Bug Hunting Session on July 6th – the last one before the release of LibreOffice 6.1!

LibreOffice 6.1 is due to be released in mid August with many new features described in the release notes and this is our last chance to test and find issues before its release.

In order to find, report and triage bugs, the tests during the Third Bug Hunting Session will be performed on the first Release Candidate version of LibreOffice 6.1, which will be available on the pre-releases server on the day of the event. Builds will be available for Linux (DEB and RPM), macOS and Windows.

Mentors will be available on July 6th 2018, from 7.00 UTC to 19:00 UTC for questions or help in the IRC channel: #libreoffice-qa and its Telegram bridge and there will be a dedicated session to test the new offline help system available in LibreOffice 6.1 from 14:00 and 16:00 UTC.

Of course, hunting bugs will be possible also on other days, as the builds of this particular Release Candidate (LibreOffice 6.1.0 RC1) will be available until the end of July, when the second Release Candidate will be available.
