LibreOffice 6.3.1 and LibreOffice 6.2.7 announced, focusing on security

Berlin, September 5, 2019 – The Document Foundation announces LibreOffice 6.3.1, the first minor release of the LibreOffice 6.3 family, and LibreOffice 6.2.7, the seventh minor release of the LibreOffice 6.2 family, with many bug fixes and a key security improvement. LibreOffice 6.3.1 and LibreOffice 6.2.7 consider the presence of any call to a script-like thing as equally hazardous as a macro, and present the user a warning dialog about the document trying to execute a script. Users should never allow the execution of macros and scripts embedded in documents, unless they are perfectly aware of the potential risks associated with the action. LibreOffice 6.3.1 “fresh” is targeted at technology enthusiasts and power users, while LibreOffice 6.2.7 “still” is targeted at users in production environments and individual users who prefer robustness over advanced features. Berlin, August 14, 2019 – The Document Foundation announces LibreOffice 6.2.6, the sixth minor release of the LibreOffice 6.2 family, targeted at users in production environments. All users of LibreOffice 6.1.x and LibreOffice 6.2.x versions should upgrade immediately for enhanced security, as the software includes both security fixes and some months of back-ported fixes. The Document Foundation announces LibreOffice 6.0.7 and LibreOffice 6.1.3: all users are invited to update for improved robustness and security

Berlin, November 5, 2018 – The Document Foundation announces the release of LibreOffice 6.0.7 and LibreOffice 6.1.3, which improve the quality and stability of previous releases, and integrate a security patch. All LibreOffice users are therefore strongly recommended to update to the new versions: Power users, early adopters and technology enthusiasts should update from LibreOffice 6.1.2 to LibreOffice 6.1.3, which represents the bleeding edge in term of features for open source office suites; All other individual users and organizations of any size should update from any previous version of LibreOffice to LibreOffice 6.0.7, which is more mature and as such targeted at production environments and enterprise-class deployments. Organizations should source LibreOffice 6.0.7 from one of the companies providing a Long Term Supported version of the suite, for additional value-added services which make the software better suited to enterprise deployments, thanks to professional support (the companies are all members of TDF’s Advisory Board, and are listed here: https://www.documentfoundation.org/governance/advisory-board/). How LibreOffice’s quality has improved thanks to automated tools and the volunteer contribution of security specialists

Berlin, July 25, 2018 – The Document Foundation celebrates five years of improvements to LibreOffice’s source code under Red Hat’s leadership, thanks to the adoption of automated tools such as Coverity Scan and Google OSS-Fuzz, and to the key contributions in the area of source code fuzzing of security specialists such as Antti Levomäki and Christian Jalio of Forcepoint. “The combination of Coverity Scan, Google OSS-Fuzz and dedicated fuzzing by security specialists at Forcepoint has allowed us to catch bugs – which could have turned into security issues – before a release,” says Red Hat’s Caolán McNamara, a senior developer and the leader of the security team at LibreOffice. Since 2013, Coverity Scan has helped to reduce the number of issues by several orders of magnitude (from 0.93 to 0.00093 per 1,000 lines of code). The score is significantly better than the FOSS software average of 0.65 and the proprietary software average of 0.71. The Coverity Scan score is related to a static analysis to find source code defects and vulnerabilities. In static analysis, the code under examination is not executed. As such, the score does not represent an absolute value about quality and security of the software when executed

Early availability of LibreOffice 5.4.5 and LibreOffice 6.0.1: all users are invited to update for improved robustness and security

Berlin, February 9, 2018 – The Document Foundation announces the earlier than planned release of LibreOffice 5.4.5 and LibreOffice 6.0.1, to solve issues which have popped up after the launch of LibreOffice 6.0. In addition, the new release has been leveraged to integrate a security patch. Although members of the LibreOffice core development team were attending FOSDEM in Brussels to talk about LibreOffice and meet the FOSS community, they have immediately reacted to QA reports and provided the necessary patches. This confirms the level of responsiveness achieved by LibreOffice project. All LibreOffice users are therefore strongly invited to update to the new versions: Power users, early adopters and technology enthusiasts should update from the recently installed LibreOffice 6.0 to LibreOffice 6.0.1, All individual users and organizations of any size should update from any other version of LibreOffice to LibreOffice 5.4.5. Berlin, January 31, 2018 – The Document Foundation announces LibreOffice 6.0, a major release and a dramatically improved free office suite, which celebrates the 7th anniversary of the availability of the very first version of LibreOffice. Today LibreOffice is more powerful, simple and secure, and offers superior interoperability with Microsoft Office documents. LibreOffice 6.0 is immediately available for Windows, macOS and Linux, and for the cloud. The new major release adds a large number of significant new features to the core engine and to individual modules (Writer, Calc and Impress/Draw), with the objective of providing users with the best in terms of personal productivity.
