Dear Community, we’re happy to announce that LibreOffice and The Document Foundation will be at this year’s FOSDEM in Brussels, February 5th and 6th. We will not only have a booth on Saturday and Sunday, where lots of active community members can be met, but we’re delighted to announce that on Sunday, February 6th, we’re having our own DevRoom from 09:00 to 17:00 in room H.2214. Amsterdam, January 12th, 2011 – OpenDoc Society, the global association that promotes best practices for office applications, today announced that The Document Foundation has become an organizational member. The Document Foundation joins other companies, Open Source communities, public sector organizations and not-for-profits that are already members organizations of OpenDoc Society, such as Cap Gemini, Google, IBM, CWI and the Netherlands Department of Defense. OpenDoc Society brings together individuals and organizations with a stake or interest in the openness and future of documents, to learn from each other and share knowledge and best practices about core technologies, available tools, policy issues, transition strategies, legal aspects and of course the latest innovations. This year’s pre-eminent European Free Software conference: FOSDEM (Brussels 5-6th February) will have a great LibreOffice presence. We have just published our developer room schedule with some great speakers and talks. Come and hear about how you can get involved with developing LibreOffice, and/or pop by the stand to meet the people behind the project. Hope to see you there next month.
According to this posting, https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2011-January/032298.html, Ubuntu 11.04 will ship LibreOffice instead of OOo. Several other distributions are rumored to at least ship LibreOffice by default. Great times ahead!
