Help us to make document compatibility even better
The Document Liberation Project (DLP) is a sister project to LibreOffice, and provides many software libraries for reading and writing a large range of file formats – such as files created by other productivity tools. Thanks to the DLP, LibreOffice (and other programs) can open many legacy, proprietary documents, but there’s always room for improvement! Check out this short video to learn more:

I have written a rather lengthy document about my personal and family struggle with autoimmune diseases, mostly Gelsolin. I have it available on Dropbox.com, and I try to keep it available in .odt, .docx, and .pdf. Several hundred persons have downloaded the document, “Amyloid and Old Karl”. There are also several other documents at this address which are freely available. https://bit.ly/2JTYPP9. I write “Amyloid and Old Karl” in .odt, then trans into the others. I have tried almost all the translations, but these seem to work best and cover the most machines. I also put an updated (almost daily) on my Kindle Paperwhite; .pdf seems to work best. If you wish to look at it, go ahead. There is nothing in it which is any kind of secret. Thanks for your work. I really appreciate Libre Office. But I do have a few issues. 1) Erasing page breaks once they are set. 2) Various lines of erased text boxes showing while I am editing. 3) inability to adjust dates when changing field types. The calendar is not changeable. 4) Figuring out how the line numbering system works. 50 Signing a document.
Hi Karl, I’m afraid we can’t provide one-to-one technical support on the blog (we’re a small non-profit entity, and there are millions of LibreOffice users around the world). For help, please use our community support site: https://ask.libreoffice.org – please provide lots of details (LibreOffice version, operating system, screenshot if necessary). Then someone from the community can help you – and other users can benefit from the answers too!
Forget I wrote. I am not looking for individual technical support. I am just trying to help you folks understand that some parts of the program just do not work. Since you think everything is perfect, I will keep my mouth shut.
Hi Karl, that’s not true at all – if we thought “everything is perfect”, we wouldn’t be making videos like this asking for help with improvements, organising Bug Hunting Sessions, and encouraging people to report issues on Bugzilla!
Of course LibreOffice isn’t perfect, and feedback is welcome, but as mentioned, we’re a volunteer-driven, community open source project, backed by a small non-profit. We need help to improve the software, so feedback and bug reports should be given here: https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/feedback/ – our volunteers simply don’t have the time to chase up everything in blog comments. Please help our hard-working volunteers to help you, by giving your feedback via that page!
