LibreOffice Nepali localization sprint 2023

Suraj Bhattarai, our Liaison for the LibreOffice Nepali Community, writes:

The LibreOffice Nepali Community is collectively carrying out a LibreOffice localization sprint 2023, with support from major communities in Nepal, including Ask Buddie, Birendra Open Source Club (BOSC), Kathmandu University Open Source Club (KUOSC) and Nepal Open Source Klub (NOSK). The motto is: “Unlock Native: LibreOffice speaks Nepali”, and the starting date is 11th October 2023.

  • Focus: LibreOffice English to Nepali Localization
  • Mentor: Aadarsha Dhakal, Saroj Dhakal & Suraj Bhattarai
  • Duration: 1 hour each day

Objectives

  • Introduce/aware new contributors, students around the LibreOffice project through this localization event
  • Encourage Open Source communities and university based student clubs to expand and carry our work in their space as well.

Expected Participants: 50+ students – Orientation day: 11th October 2023

Here’s our summary of updates, events and activities in the LibreOffice project in the last four weeks – click the links to learn more…

  • We started the month by highlighting upcoming events: the LibreOffice Conference 2023 (which has now finished – more on that in a moment); the Latin American Conference, and LibreOffice Conf.Asia.

  • Next up, we had a bunch of LibreOffice Expert magazines to give away to schools and local communities. They’ve all been claimed now, but if you still want a copy, you can get one from the publisher.

  • This year, LibreOffice was once again a mentoring organization in the Google Summer of Code (GSoC), a global program focused on bringing more student developers into free and open source software development. Five projects were finished successfully. Students and mentors enjoyed the time, and we presented some of the achievements, which should make their way into LibreOffice 24.2 in early February 2024!

  • The biggest event in September was the LibreOffice Conference 2023 in Bucharest, Romania. We had an awesome time, with talks, workshops and social meetups – more to come on this blog (including presentation videos) in the coming weeks!

1.5 million downloads of LibreOffice 7.6!

Two weeks ago, we released LibreOffice 7.6, our new major version of the office suite. And so far we’ve had 1,587,383 downloads from our site! (So that doesn’t include Linux distributions that package it themselves.) We hope all users are enjoying it, and the many new features.

Some more stats: 31,519 impressions of the announcement tweet, with 690 likes and 231 reposts. Our Mastodon post had 293 likes and 272 reposts, while the New Features video on YouTube has had 17,339 views. (It’s also on PeerTube as well.)

Many thanks to our worldwide community of volunteers, and certified developers, for all their work on this release!
