LibreOffice is in the Google Summer of Code 2023!
Everyone loves having shiny new features in LibreOffice. But how do we get them? Many are developed by volunteers and people in the ecosystem.
But another great source of new features is the Google Summer of Code (GSoC), a global, online program focused on bringing new contributors into open source software development. GSoC Contributors work with open source organisations on a 12+ week programming project under the guidance of mentors.
And we’re happy to announce that for 2023’s GSoC, LibreOffice is once again taking part!
Please don’t allow or put any google specific code into your application. Stay Clean. Stay Offline.
Hi, this isn’t about “Google specific code” at all – it’s about a mentoring project, to help more people get involved in LibreOffice development.
The people writing code in summer of code are all college students looking for work experience, Google’s only influence is that they’re paying for the functional interns
Yes, GSOC has been running since 2005.
It’s for LO (and other open-source) developers to “mentor” and teach college students around the world, having them:
– work on real-life projects
– + add many features.
LO has been doing this for many years now. For example, GSOC students for:
LO 7.3:
– Introduced QR Codes
– Fixed Notebookbar (Tabbed UI) issues
– Added Chart Styles
LO 7.4:
– Animated Physics in Shapes (Impress)
LO 7.5:
– Updated VBA Macros / Compatibility
– Better WMF/EMF handling
See the latest LibreOffice 2022 Conference GOSC talk as one example:

Hopefully someone will work on catching the error which occurs when referenced cells are deleted.
If a row, column or sheet worth a reference cell is deleted an Error message should pop up
Thanks
Honestly, the reason I want to use open source technology instead of just trusting anyone who tries to sell me anything like everyone else does is to hide from googles mass surveillance attempts. Don’t do business with the enemy.
1, Your link “suggest improvements” instead leads to a page “report bugs”. Is this a bug?
2. You have two sets of templates, one is behind the other. One controls the formatting, EXCEPT the character format, The character format continually resets. Even though I enter “Erase Direct Format” and have the text format set to one style character, it continually resets to the OTHER template. Maybe there is some way to correct this, but this isn’t the point. Please just consolidate all variables into a single template. That would save so much time, instead of fighting for hours to set one format to control the other.
Hi, we use the bug tracker to also track enhancement requests. If you want a change or a new feature, please remember that we’re a volunteer-driven project with very limited resources, so we’d appreciate your help! Thank you!
