Google Summer of Code 2020: LibreOffice projects announced
Google Summer of Code (GSoC) is a global programme focused on bringing more student developers into open source software development. LibreOffice took part last year, which led to some great new features including a QR code generator and NotebookBar improvements.
And in 2020, we’re in GSoC again! Six projects have been selected, which are due to be implemented over the summer:
- Add Impress shape animations that use a real physics engine (Sarper Akdemir)
- Extending the UITest framework (Ahmed ElShreif)
- Blurry Shadows (Ahmad Ganzouri)
- Styles Inspector (Shivam Kumar Singh)
- Move the gallery code to use ZIP files (Aditya Sahu)
- Additions – Tight integration of extensions (Yusuf Keten)
Good luck to all of the students, and we look forward to seeing the results at the end of summer. We’ll post updates on this blog about the results!
Please guys as you are looking to improve the extension experience for Libreoffice for the tabbed interface take a look at this GitHub request to improve the Zotero integration.
https://github.com/zotero/zotero-libreoffice-integration/pull/51#issuecomment-633734574
The Zotero integration works brilliantly for Word on Windows but is cluttered and counterintuitive in its current form on Writer.
As part of the details the Devs noted the lack of customability in the current interface with icons not being resizable and no text displayed. It looks like they would like to help improve the experience.
This is the perfect opportunity to collaborate to get this great extension and others working first class in LubreOffice. This would be a win for both projects.
