The German LibreOffice Community today announced the availability of its LibreOffice-Box, a compilation of LibreOffice with extensions, cliparts, galleries, fonts and additional programs on DVD. For the download and more informaton refer to http://www.libreofficebox.org. International versions of the image are planned.
If you thought we were all back to sleep after the release of LibreOffice 3.3, think again! The Steering Committee is at work and today we wanted to publish our opinion on a touchy subject, the support of OOXML in LibreOffice. LibreOffice offers the ability to export documents in the Microsoft Office formats, and these include the ones of MS Office 2007 and 2010. You can actually deactivate that feature if you don’t like it.

In less than four months, the number of developers hacking LibreOffice has grown from less than twenty in late September 2010, to well over one hundred today. Dear Community,
the last days, we have seen long discussions, people asking about processes and directions, and the role of the Steering Committee was unclear to some Community members. I do not want to discuss the issues in detail, I even don’t want to mention them by name, but I felt it was time to bring some personal thoughts into them.
